Jalalabad (Dari Persian and Pashto: ???? ???? Jal?l?b?d - formerly known as Jal?lkot[5] - Pashto: ???????) is a city in eastern Afghanistan. Located at the junction of the Kabul River and Kunar River rivers near the Laghman valley, Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar province. It is linked by approximately 95 miles (153 km) of highway with Kabul to the west. Jalalabad is the largest city in eastern Afghanistan as well as its social and business centre of activity. Major industries include papermaking, as well agricultural products including oranges, rice, and sugarcane. Jalalabad is one of the leading trading centres with Pakistan.[6]

According to new study the population of the city are mostly Pashtun, at 65%, Tajiks, at 20% remaining others are Pashais are 7% and Gujjars Sikhs/Hindus, also some others from north and very few Peshawar People due to trade and mirages, the influence of Dari language is increasing day by day due to the people of Behsood and Surkhrod districts of Nangarhar Province; they are turning to the city making homes like no others districts resident of Nangarhar province, both districts are much closer to Jalal Abad City. also Gujjars Sikhs/Hindus) coming from the different part of the country and Pakistan due o security and business problems. .[1] Pashto and Persian are the main language of the city but Pashto is used throughout the province. Persianis used as second languages due to the influence of the nearby people.
